Pinot Noir First Vines 2007

Hawkshead is a "Single Estate" vineyard, on sunny north-facing slopes. The soils are light loess over schist bedrock and windblown glacial deposits. Late flowering in spring ensured uniform fruitset. Excellent weather in February followed by a fine warm autumn allowed the slow ripening of small tight berries. The flavours developed delicately yet with depth, promising a fine vintage. 'First Vines' is a premium selection of the very first vines planted and therefore the oldest established grapes in our boutique vineyard.

Colour
Bright ruby with a purple edge.

Nose
Cherries, red plums, together with hints of aromatic sun-dried herbs and bramble leaves with underlying floral notes.

Palate
Summer red berry fruit, Morello cherry and savoury aromatic notes. Well structured tannins and balanced acidity harmoniously support the vibrant fruit through a long finish. The wine is medium bodied yet full flavoured and will age gracefully.
