Sub-region
Alpine Wairau Valley, Marlborough
Vineyard
The small 2009 crop is from the Te Puke Iti vineyard, the highest vineyard in the Wairau Valley (260 metres above sea level). The vines thrive in free draining, rich gravel and stony soils. Water sourced from the upper reaches of the Wairau River. This wine is a single vineyard wine from the newest sub-region of Marlborough and purity is its essence. The alpine characteristics of the valley are a match with Otago origins.
Tasting note
This is a pale straw finely textured wine, fresh and full bodied, and excellent delicacy and depth. Flavours of ripe gooseberry, pink grapefruit and white currant with a soft rounded finish.
Comments
2009 will be remembered as a great Sauvignon BLanc vintage in Marlborough. Harvets conditions were characterised by very cool nights and warm days accumulating intense flavours and natural acidity. The 2009 crop was hand harvested March 27.
